High crosswinds at Gillespie County Airport (T82) forced us to divert 20 miles southwest to Kerrville (KERV) and we're so glad we did! This excellent alternate features a very nice FBO with great amenities, easy fuel access and pilot-friendly transient parking (NO FEES). Join us as we land and walk you through everything you need to know: parking, fuel, facilities, ground transportation and more. Free overnight parking is just the beginning...this will become your new go-to Hill Country airport Join us on Patreon for behind the scenes content: / outsidethecockpit TRANSIENT PARKING Transient parking can be found on the ramp across from the Terminal Building. Look for empty unmarked spot with chain tie-downs. Be sure to tie-down your plane as it can get gusty in the area. Overnight transient parking is FREE! FUEL Full service fuel is provided by Kerrville Aviation FBO. Let the front desk inside the Terminal Building know what you need and they’ll take care of you. Self-serve fuel is located at the far south end of the ramp. There is only one pump and prices are reasonable. RESTROOMS Restrooms are located inside the Terminal Building. COURTSEY CAR / RENTAL CARS / RIDESHARE Kerrville Aviation has courtesy cars if you need to get off field. Hertz Rentals is on field and available for longer visits to the area. Rideshare may be an option depending on the season, so plan accordingly. FOOD You’ll find plenty of food options within 5 miles of the airport. Some of the more popular options in the area are Taqueria del Rey, Central BBQ, Killen’s BBQ (a little further), Houston has a massive food scene and there is a large variety of food. You’ll find lots of Mexican and Vietnamese options and be sure to try the crawfish if you’re around during the season (March - June). FBO Kerrville Aviation is the FBO on field. They handle everything from full service fuel, any issues you may have with self-serve fuel, car rentals, courtesy car requests and everything in-between. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. There is a pilot’s lounge with shower, flight planning and kitchenette area. A conference room overlooking the ramp area is available upon request. They have the best are to planespot – the patio. The nice rocking chairs on the patio make it the perfect spot to hang out. Flying over the Texas Hill Country is breathtaking - rolling terrain, winding rivers, and some of the most beautiful landscape in the state. This diversion gave us views we would've missed otherwise, making it worth every nautical mile!
