Chapter 57 – Luang Prabang Laos – Day 5 I had expected this would be my last day in Laung Prabang, as I had booked a 14:45 flight to Hanoi with Vietnam Airlines. After breakfast, I took a final look around the resort and then relaxed poolside for a while. The resort arranged for me to go to the airport with a driver who was picking up other guests. When we reached the airport, the problems began. I had checked Vietnam visa status on-line, the government website said I could get a ‘visa on arrival’. When I tried to check in for my flight, my ticket was good, but I was told I needed a visa letter to board. The resort was kind enough to take me back there with the arriving guests, and as my room had been assigned to incoming guests, they moved me to a spacious ‘Junior suite’ room. I began a frantic search to find out about the Vietnam visa requirements… only to discover that the official site listed a processing time of 5 or more days! Fortunately, I found a company, Vietnam Visa (https://vietnamvisa.govt.vn/), that said they could do a 30-day tourist visa in one working day. After a flurry of Emails to submit the necessary documents, they said they would work on it and get back to me. Since tonight’s dinner would be later, I went to the Laung Prabang night market. The night market offered a vast array of goods with an emphasis on souvenirs, trinkets and artworks of interest to tourists. Of course, no night market in good standing would be complete without many different food offerings.
