Understanding This at 55 Changed Everything for Me For most of my life, I thought I’d already dealt with my childhood. I forgave my parents. I moved on. Or at least, I thought I did. But in my late 50s, I had a realization that changed everything 💡 The chaos I grew up in didn’t just disappear because I grew up. In this video, I talk about how childhood trauma can quietly shape our relationships, self-worth, nervous system, and life choices well into adulthood, especially for those of us who didn’t grow up with words like trauma or mental health 🧠💔 If you’ve ever wondered: • Why life felt harder than it should have • Why you kept choosing the same patterns • Why forgiving didn’t bring the peace you expected • Or why you’re starting over later in life You’re not broken. And you’re not alone 🤍 I share what I learned, why it matters even at our age, and how understanding this finally replaced shame with compassion and confusion with clarity. Because healing doesn’t have an expiration date 🌱 And understanding your story can change everything. Links: https://www.rockefellerfoundation.org... Scoring the ACE Questionnaire: Scores of 1-3 suggest intermediate risk, while 4+ indicate high risk, prompting clinical attention for potential long-term issues like depression, heart disease, or addiction. ACE Score Ranges & Meanings 0 ACEs: Lowest risk for negative health outcomes. 1-3 ACEs (Low to Moderate): Modest increase in risk for health/social problems; considered "intermediate risk" for toxic stress. 4+ ACEs (High Adversity): Clinically significant threshold with substantially increased risks for numerous health and social issues, including depression, addiction, and suicide attempts. 6+ ACEs (Very High): Associated with the highest risks, including potentially 20 years shorter life expectancy. What the Score Means for Health & Behavior Dose-Response: Higher scores mean greater exposure to toxic stress, leading to a higher likelihood of adult problems. Increased Risks (Score 4+): Significantly higher rates of chronic diseases (heart disease, cancer), substance abuse (alcoholism, drug injection), mental health issues (depression, suicide attempts), and shorter lifespan.
