The Karthala volcano on the island nation of Comoros just had its alert level raised due to a series of earthquake swarms. As a result, this volcano might produce a new explosive eruption or a long distance lava flow which could affect the capital city of Moroni. This volcano exists due to an underlying hotspot and generally produces an eruption about once every 6 to 7 years.
