Dr. Laura Cocas is a developmental neurobiologist at Santa Clara University with a passion for making neuroscience understandable and available to everyone. She earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Georgetown University, where she conducted research at both Georgetown and the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Since her graduate school days, she has focused on sharing science in ways that are easy to understand. Dr. Cocas is a first-generation college student keeping the door open for new first-gen students through her mentorship and advocacy. In this talk, Dr. Laura Cocas speaks to educators, parents, and community members about how children’s brains grow, learn, and adapt. Watch her break down the science and stay until the end when she and community members discuss what this means for teachers and how they might best communicate with kids about their brains. This talk is perfect for anyone curious about the fundamentals of brain development and its impact on how we learn.
