Dr. Steve DeNeff opens by naming what many pastors feel but rarely say out loud: ministry can be lonely, and the church can’t thrive on “stage Christianity” alone. With three lay leaders from Marion, Indiana beside him, DeNeff casts a big vision from Colossians 3:17: “Whatever you do… do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” That “all” means every person, every place, every occupation, there is no work outside the reach of Jesus’ kingdom. Using a brilliant puzzle metaphor, he reframes vocation: the question isn’t “How do I find Jesus in my calling?” but “How do I find my calling in Jesus?” Your daily work is a piece of a much larger picture: God making all things new (Revelation 21). When you see how your job fits into God’s renewing of the world, purpose ignites. Then DeNeff gets intensely practical with a simple framework—FIT: Find the work inside your job (job = what you’re paid to do; work = what you leave behind) Identify three people in your space and take responsibility to pray for their spiritual good Take ownership of the culture through prayer, excellence, and changed language, no title required The service closes with a call for lay people to come forward as pastors pray over them, a consecration of everyday work and a clear message: the Spirit is pushing the church outward into the marketplace, and the people already embedded there are the ones God wants to use. This is a commissioning moment in seed form: ordinary believers offering their “one space” to God and asking Him to set it on fire.
