During his early kithood, he often refused to hang out with his siblings, but one always insisted on being there with him; his sister, Shelly. She was always encouraging him to spend time with the family, but, never complained when he didn't want too. She vowed to always stay by his side, no matter how "boring" he was. As they grew older, he continued to distance himself from the others, but kept her close beside him. They often enjoyed playing together and practicing their hunting skills. One night, they snuck out to explore the forest while the moon was out; they had not been taught the dangers of the dark. They didn't hear the owl overhead. The owl snatched Shelly; she screamed for Rat to help her. He tried but was injured in the process. He was unable to save Shelly. After that, he was cast out from his home for being 'unsellable' because of the cut on his ear. He eventually found his way into a clan that took him in and treated him as their own. He misses Shelly and often dreams of the life they had and could have had together. He wishes she could still be with him and blames himself for bringing her out that night. Shelly, in Starclan, watches over him and does not blame him at all. She has always been by his side, watching him grow up and become the amazing warrior he is today.
