Tsunehiro Aki, Ph.D. Professor, Program of Biotechnology Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life Hiroshima University Abstract My team aim to develop and commercialize technologies that utilize microbial biotechnology to reproduce useful substances, particularly high-value-added functional lipids, from industrial waste and underutilized resources. Among these, the marine eukaryotic microorganism Aurantiochytrium is highly anticipated for industrial applications due to its ability to accumulate high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, antioxidant carotenoids and other lipids for chemical raw materials. I will introduce efforts to enhance its functionality through molecular breeding and the establishment of fermentation process. Date & Time: 10:00–11:00 am, 17 December 2025 Location: Lecture Hall, 10th Floor, Engineering 4 Building, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University Disclaimer: This project was supported by the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology’s International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF) via the Royal Academy of Engineering under the Frontiers Champions scheme.
