It is said that Takayama Iganokami Hidetora built Takayama Castle during the Kamakura period, but details remain unclear. During the Sengoku period, the castle served as the residence of the Hirai and Mori clans. During the Battle of Sekigahara, it became a branch castle of the Western Army under Tomomasa Tamura, the lord of Iwamura Castle. Tomomasa was defeated by the Tsumaki clan in the Battle of Tōnō (a series of battles fought in the Tōnō region during the Battle of Sekigahara). He set fire to Takayama Castle and retreated to Tsuruga Castle in Mizunami City. The fall of Toki Takayama Castle is recorded in a letter sent by Tokugawa Ieyasu to Tsumaki Ieyori. Today, an observation tower stands at the site of Takayama Castle, offering a panoramic view of the Toki cityscape. In the area surrounding the Toki Takayama Castle ruins, Gifu Prefecture has developed the "Forest of the Toki Takayama Castle Ruins," where nature experience classes are held. In spring, weeping plum trees, cherry blossoms, and flowering peaches bloom in full glory, and events such as the "Toki Takayama Castle Festival" and the pottery festival in the city center take place. On the day of the photo shoot, it was a cold period in March, and the plum blossoms were far from being in full bloom. #4k #japan #walkthrough #walking #gifu
