Wide-shot of guards STORYLINE: The commander of Yugoslav forces that pushed ethnic Albanian rebels out of a contested southern village near Kosovo said on Wednesday that 14 insurgents were killed and eight wounded in the fighting. Government troops entered the village of Oraovica late Tuesday, forcing ethnic Albanian militants to abandon it after four days of clashes. The army's recapture of the village came after house-to-house fighting. On Wednesday, many of the villagers who had fled the fighting, returned. Oraovica lies just east of a 5-kilometer-wide (3-mile-wide) buffer zone separating Kosovo, a Serb province under NATO and U.N. control, from the rest of Serbia, the dominant Yugoslav republic. The town had been recently seized by ethnic Albanian insurgents operating out of the zone. Meanwhile, an EU delegation led by Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh arrived in Macedonia as part of a two-day trip to encourage European integration. The delegation will also visit Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina. In the Macedonian capital of Skopje, the European Union representatives met with members of a broad-based coalition government that was formed last week amid clashes between ethnic Albanian rebels and government forces. The new government faces the difficult task of bridging deep differences sparked by distrust between the majority Slavs and the ethnic Albanian minority. The Swedish Foreign Minister said Tuesday that the delegation planned to "stress the importance of reforms that will divert (Macedonia) away from ethnic conflicts towards European integration."
