Prelude and Postlude for February 1, 2025 (Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany)

In English, we typically sing the test "Praise to the Lord, the almighty, the King of creation" to this tune, which is a fairly literal translation of the original by Joachim Neander, a 17th century Calvinist hymnodist. The first setting is a fantasy by Niels Gade for harmonium, which is fairly easily adapted to the organ. Gade takes us on a tour of the elements of the hymn, as does Martin Shaw who begins his processional with just a small piece of the melody used as thematic material, slowly building until the full organ (choir optional) thunders out a full statement of the hymn.
