Today's adventure is my last in Colombia! In fact my last from the epic trip I started all the way back in Canada! It all takes place in the Uramba Bahía Málaga National Park of Colombia. A relatively new NP in Colombia that was incorporated in 2010. A few people had recommended it to me and I figured a chill island-like getaway would be a nice way to round out my trip. Getting there was quite the challenge. Arriving in the port there are all sorts of people trying to get you to buy a ticket to get the boat. I fortunately met someone in the same situation as me and somehow we gave someone a reasonable amount of money and got on a boat. Holy goodness, that was the craziest boat ride I think I've ever had. The waves were all over the place and our skinny boat was also all over the place, literally throwing us up in the air! Crazy! But chalk it up to experience we got there in one piece, albeit slightly damp. I stayed at the hostel Pacifico which is somewhat off grid, in the jungle, away from everything, it was a pretty sweet spot! There was stunning view across a small section of a bay and I would say the main excitement was the tide. It was quite amazing see how much it rose and fell during the day. At high tide there was a stunning oceanscape where you could swim, kayak and enjoy the view. At low tide the beach opened up and there was plenty of space for a bit of exploring. While I was there the weather was rather insane. Crazy rain and storms with a little sunshine dotted in between. Despite this I still managed to get out on a small kayaking adventure with a few people following the river into the jungle a bit. It was a nice peaceful paddle that didn't really lead anywhere, but after being stuck for a day in the rain it was nice to get out. A couple of days later the stormy weather was gone and finally sunshine! So I set off with a big group of people to find a couple of waterfalls. Namely the Cascadas la Sierpe. It was so nice to get on speed boat and have a smooth, sun kissed sail. It was however, very busy. Being a weekend all the local tourists appeared and blimey there were people everywhere. It gave the place a nice atmosphere despite how busy it was, the waterfalls were stunning. Going for a swim and taking it all in was a great way to end my time in Colombia.
