In this session, the study continued in Romans 4, exploring Apostle Paul’s teaching that justification is by faith alone, not by works, circumcision, or obedience to the law. Using Abraham as the central example, Babu explained how righteousness was credited to Abraham before circumcision, showing that salvation is grounded in faith, not ritual or performance. Key themes covered: Faith over Circumcision – Abraham was declared righteous before circumcision, proving that salvation does not depend on rituals or outward signs. Faith, not Law – Justification and inheritance of God’s promises are apart from the law, which reveals sin but cannot save. Rituals and Reality – Circumcision (and for Christians, baptism or the Lord’s Supper) are meaningful only when backed by genuine faith. Spiritual Descendants of Abraham – True children of Abraham are those who share his faith, whether Jew or Gentile. The Role of Grace – Abraham’s faith was a response to God’s grace, showing that the object of faith (God’s promise in Christ) matters more than the strength of faith. Faith Tested and Matured – Abraham’s trust grew through trials, pointing to how God strengthens and sustains the faith of His people. 📖 “It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise…but through the righteousness that comes by faith.” – Romans 4:13 This teaching highlights the heart of the gospel: faith alone in Christ alone brings justification, apart from works, rituals, or human effort.
