David Hamilton Jackson & All Ah We Student Art Project Ceremony Hosted by the Virgin Islands Department of Education – Division of Cultural Education, this program at Cane Roots Art Gallery celebrated student artists, writers, and performers whose work reflects the enduring legacies of David Hamilton Jackson and Rothschild Francis. The ceremony featured remarks by Dr. Renée Charleswell, Deputy Commissioner of Curriculum and Instruction; Stephanie Chalana Brown, Director of the Division of Cultural Education; and Sonia Deane, Gallery Director of Cane Roots Art Gallery. Dr. Kula Francis, historian and UVI faculty member, delivered the keynote address on the life and work of Rothschild Francis. Teachers across both districts, including Ms. Luz Rivera-Baires, Mr. Shem Matthew, Ms. Jessica Patterson, and Ms. Jenna Fuentes, were honored for integrating cultural and civic education into their classrooms. This recording preserves a moment where education meets art and ancestral reflection. Students from every grade level transformed the stories of Jackson and Francis into living expressions of freedom, using poetry, music, research, and visual art to reimagine what civic participation means in the Virgin Islands today. Recorded at Cane Roots Art Gallery, Christiansted Presented by the Division of Virgin Islands Cultural Education, Virgin Islands Department of Education
