Tradition Lives - 3 | Tribute to Sri S. Rajam

Karaikudi S. Subramanian speaks.. "'The exterior belied his soul’s immensity' as a musician, painter and an actor. None of these roles rose above what he was - a beautiful person, without the right recognition for what he was. Not a dilettante, but a fulfilled artiste who expressed unequivocally what these artistic expressions were supposed to mean. In short, he was simplicity, honesty, forthrightness and unpretentiousness personified. He was a wholesome man with no mincing of words, transparent and fearless, heartful and spontaneous, expressive but subtle, respectful and respected. He was one who did what best he could as a true artiste with no expectations of encomiums nor honor because he recognized all these within with a distanced smile! A karma yogi. I wonder whether the world will see another such an artiste in the future! Today is his 102nd birth anniversary, a day of quiet celebration for all those who knew who he really was – a beautiful person! Here is my musical tribute to him on the ‘vina and voice’ through “Antaranga Bhakti” – one of Sri S. Rajam’s favorites among Kotiswara Iyer’s Krities.
