James Anthony Piersall (November 14, 1929 - June 3, 2017) was a outfielder in Major League Baseball who played in 17 seasons for 5 teams from 1950- through 1967. He made his Major League Debut for the Boston Red Sox on September 7, 1950. After the 1958 season, Piersall was traded to the Cleveland Indians, but was traded to the Washington Senators before the start of the 1962 season. He was traded again part way through the 1963 season to the New York Mets. While there, Piersall hit his 100th career homerun off Dallas Green. To celebrate, he ran around the bases in the correct order while facing backwards. Piersall was released by the Mets shortly after hitting his 100th homerun. He was signed by the Los Angeles Angels, who eventually became known as the California Angels. Piersall played his last game on May 1, 1967. After his career as a player ended, Piersall worked in the front office for the Angels and the Oakland A's. From 1977 through 1981, he broadcast games for the Chicago White Sox with Harry Carey. Piersall was a minor league coach for the Chicago Cubs from 1986 until 1999. He was inducted in the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame on September 17, 2010. Piersall passed away on June 3, 2017, He is buried in Section H at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois. #famousgraves #bipolar
