In this video I reflect on something that’s been on my mind for a while. We often hear about ultra processed diets and the importance of eating whole, natural foods. But if you live with PKU (Phenylketonuria), how realistic is that advice? If phenylalanine has to be removed from food… If our bread, pasta and substitutes have to be specially manufactured… Can a PKU diet ever truly be “natural”? This isn’t a criticism of the diet. It’s not a complaint. It’s an honest question. As someone living with PKU, I have the mindset and discipline to follow a healthy, whole food approach. But biologically, that option simply isn’t available in the same way it is for others. So where does that leave us? • Is processed food unavoidable in PKU? • Could manufacturers improve things? • Is medication the only path toward a more natural way of eating? I’m not a dietitian or food scientist. I’m just sharing my lived experience and thoughts. I’d love to hear your perspective in the comments.
