So I’m reacting to the TikToks and Reels that are pushing dopamine detoxes and asking the obvious question: are these ideas helpful… or have we completely lost the plot? In this episode of Field Notes, I react to viral content about dopamine detoxing and unpack: • why dopamine has suddenly become the internet’s main villain • what dopamine actually does (and what it doesn’t) • the difference between healthy motivation and numb scrolling • raw-dogging flights, bareback flights, and why mothers have already lived this • whether detoxing stimulation restores motivation or just makes life bleak • how modern content culture might be breaking our ability to focus and how to reduce screen time This is the setup episode.
