Dating back to the Norman period, this historic church once belonged to the Abbey of St Peter in Gloucester before passing to the Oliffe family. Inside, you’ll find: 13th-century chancel arch and south aisle Rare surviving medieval wall paintings Beautiful lancet windows Carved stone heads decorating the south-east window An extremely rare decorated Gothic piscina This peaceful village perfectly captures the medieval heritage that makes the Cotswolds so special. 📍 Shipton Sollars- Smaller and wonderfully secluded, Shipton Sollars offers tranquil countryside views and a stunning former rectory built in 1863. The village is home to St Mary’s Church, first recorded as a chapel in 1236. After centuries of decline and restoration — including major repairs in 1883 and again in 1929 — the church was declared redundant in 2005 and is now cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. Its story of decay, rescue, and preservation reflects the enduring history found throughout rural England.
