In this video, I tackle the job of replacing the rear wheel bearings on my daughter's 2004 Toyota Matrix XR with about 220,000 miles on it. The bearings are original. The one on the driver's side has a little bit of a notchy feel when you turn the tire by hand while it's on a jack, so I decided to just go ahead and replace it while it was warm out. Since I got the bearings as a pair for both sides, I just went ahead and replaced both sides so I would know I had new ones on both sides. The hardest part of the job is getting the old bearings to release from the hole they fit into. They were corroded into place and required a bit of hammering and prying with a screwdriver or two to get it to finally pop out. If you choose to do this job, be ready to use some force to get the old ones out if yours are in the same condition. Other than that, this is a very easy job that anyone can do.
