19 December 2021 [What We Really Want / 우리가 진정 원하는 것] #히브리서 #Hebrews1: 1-3 #Hymn찬송가111 히브리서 1: 1옛적에 선지자들을 통하여 여러 부분과 여러 모양으로 우리 조상들에게 말씀하신 하나님이 2이 모든 날 마지막에는 아들을 통하여 우리에게 말씀하셨으니 이 아들을 만유의 상속자로 세우시고 또 그로 말미암아 모든 세계를 지으셨느니라 3이는 하나님의 영광의 광채시요 그 본체의 형상이시라 그의 능력의 말씀으로 만물을 붙드시며 죄를 정결하게 하는 일을 하시고 높은 곳에 계신 지극히 크신 이의 우편에 앉으셨느니라 Hebrews 1: 1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, (ESV) [What We Really Want / 우리가 진정 원하는 것] Let me ask you a question, ‘Do you really want Jesus?’ Many heroes of the Bible didn’t know what they wanted. 1) Even though Jacob met God at Peniel he really wanted to solve his problem of Esau rather than meet with God. He was really concerned about solving problems for a living. But perhaps they did not know what they really wanted. In these verses I would like to show that God lets us know what we really want. God lets us know that we belong to Jesus. God has continually spoken to people by His word on Jesus, the son of God in the Trinity in the Old Testament times through many prophets. (1) And Jesus created our world, space, time, matters including us; we belong to Jesus because he is ‘the heir of all things.’ (2) God lets us know that we live with His word. Verse 3, ‘he upholds the universe by the word of his power,’ means that God takes care of all things in our life by Jesus’ omnipotent word. 2) God lets us know of His love. The question is what is real love in the world? Real love manifests in verse 3, ‘after making purification for sins,’ that God forgives our real problems of sins and we can live forever belonging to Jesus. But, again, in verse 1, God spoke ‘at many times and in many ways’ in the Old Testament times. Even now, we still hear Jesus’ word. When it comes to the end of our life or this world; people won’t be able to find any excuses. What we really want is to live with Jesus and his saving works, making it possible for us to enjoy everything promised by God for us, ‘in these last days.’ (2) Guhyun Woo ------------------------------------------ 1) Ray C.
