While I missed sightings of bobcats, coyotes, otters and bald eagles for September and October, I was quite busy filming the fall bird migration here at Sweetwater. Thankfully I saw some new characters and familiar ones passing through. It has been difficult identifying some of the new faces so I wouldn't be surprised if someone comments on an identification. The Merlin app has been helpful but that makes a "best guess" which can be wrong occasionally. Birds aside, there are other changes happening. Towards the end of October the wildflower blooms have been a glorious saturation of yellows, whites and lavenders making a casual stroll along the trails and boardwalks a delight. With all the things to gawk at, it's easy to lose track of time. The park closes at sunset (sunset times varies throughout the year; see posted time near restrooms) but if you'd like to see some of the nocturnal animals in action, check out the Park Rangers' trail camera footage on the Sweetwater Wetlands Facebook page.   / swpgainesville   As always, if you plan on visiting the park please keep pets at home. No fishing, bikes or drones allowed. Also no poaching of plants and animals, we're lucky enough that they live here to begin with. A "thank you" to the Park Rangers for keeping the public informed of the park's function and the wild things that dwell here, and to the volunteers who help remove invasive plants so native species can be re-established.
