Phillip Sear plays a 1916-published nocturne by the British composer Thomas Dunhill (1877–1946). ---------------------------------------------------------- Dunhill was a brother of the Alfred Dunhill who founded the tobacco business. He studied composition under Stanford, and wrote in many genres but is remembered particularly for his educational work as both composer and editor of piano music. He did write some concert piano music, such as this piece. Stylistically it is similar to York Bowen's music of the period, and deserves the kind of revival that much of Bowen's piano music is currently enjoying. As a published copy of this piece was processed by the British Library in January 1916, I assume that it was written in 1915 or earlier. Curiously, the remainder of Dunhill's Op.46 is a collection of '3 short piano pieces', also published in 1916, so this piece doesn't belong with them. Indeed Dunhill's opus numbers are often confusing.
