Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2. saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” 3. When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; 4. and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born, 5. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: (ESV) [At Christmas Either Worship Or Wobble] 예배 또는 소동 We find daunting historical issues from these verses of the first Christmas. In verse 1, Magi were astrologers and advisers to kings in many old eastern countries 1) , so they were regarded as prominent scholars. And they visited Jesus, to the house and not to the manger in the inn, when he was already grown up to at least 2 years old due to the first turning of the star and their journey to Jerusalem taking many months in verse 11. Herod the Great was dead in 4 BC, so people have miscalculated the birthday of Jesus who actually was born before 4 BC 2) The Real King is worshiped by people who are humble themselves in v.2. The Magi Scholars worshiped Jesus who was barely recognized as our Saviour and King. Only the humble mind can worship Jesus. False kings always have a fear of rival king so they are wobbling in v. 3. False king Herod, who was actually an Edomite 3) , not David’s line as Jesus. Even though he had the knowledge of the Messiah, the real King Jesus who would be born in Bethlehem in v. 5, he planned to kill Jesus but failed. Until his death, he would have only wobbling before Jesus, and not worship him. Without believing in Jesus, people can’t worship Him but wobble themselves. By Rev Guy Woo --------------------- 1) R.
