What's better than playing through Link's Awakening DX on Nintendo Game Boy Color? Slaughtering it's boss battles with ease using a Seriously OP sword! 😊 Like what you 👀? Being originally a handheld game, the limitations of it's time should be taken into account. Nevertheless, it's absolutely hilarious just how quick the Kolohint Sword destroys them like overworld fodder. Normally, the Kolohint Sword takes a while into Link's Awakening to acquire. However, I simply used a cheat code to get it in place of Link's L-1 sword. In addition to being twice as powerful, swinging in any direction at full health also fires off sword beams. While not as damaging as a regular slash, it can rapid fire beams off like a semi-automatic gun. It's possible to push back many mini-bosses from starting their attack pattern. Please find below the full list with timestamps in chronological order... 0:01 - Rolling Bones 0:08 - Moldorm 0:18 - Moblin Chief 0:35 - Hinox 0:44 - Genie 1:34 - Slime Eyes 1:52 - Stone Hinox 2:05 - Giant Buzz Blob 2:20 - Evil Orb 2:35 - Desert Lamola 2:46 - Cue Ball 2:58 - Angler Fish 3:14 - Slime Eels 3:57 - Armos Knight 4:09 - Evil Eagle 4:53 - Turtle Rock 5:14 - Blaino 5:23 - Hot Head Some of these battles, particularly the Nightmares, require the use of it's dungeon item to advance a battle phase or to open it up for attack. Genie (Power Bracelet), Slime Eyes (Pegasus Boots), Angler Fish (Flippers), and Slime Eel (Hookshot) all apply here. However, a sword is still used to cause damage. The Kolohint Sword can even be used in place of a dungeon item in many cases. The same also applies to certain weapons such as Bombs, Boomerang, Bow and Arrow, and Magic Rod. While it can cause major damage to certain bosses, others may be immune. Moldorm cannot be damaged by a Magic Rod, but can make short work of Evil Eagle. Despite how OP the Kolohint Sword is, certain bosses and mini-bosses are excluded here. These range from practical to personal reasons, of which are explained now... Ball and Chain Soldier from Kanalet Castle is listed on some Zelda sites as a mini-boss. However, I personally never viewed it as such and several notable boss runs on YouTube also exclude it. Despite being in a larger mini-dungeon then Mob Goblin, it really just feels like a bulky enemy in a room to get a random item and leave. Dodongo Snakes, while making several appearances throughout Link's Awakening, requires bombs to defeat. Meaning neither sword can be used to win. The same logic applies to Facade from Face Shrine, Gohma from Catfish's Maw, and Smasher from Face Shrine and Turtle Rock. Master Staflos from Catfish's Maw also requires bombs to win. Swinging your sword is needed required to stun it for a bomb attack. It also has several stages to the battle as well, which would have eaten up time. Grim Creeper from Eagle's Tower is also omitted for practical reasons. The Kolohint sword can be used to win, even with it's sword beams from distance. However, winning this battle simply requires killing all five Keese in one attack pattern. As each Keese has 1 HP, it hardly shows off how OP the Kolohint Sword is. Rolling Rock, Hinox and Cue Ball all make cameo appearances again in later dungeons. However, there is little to no difference in the battles with slight alterations to it's arenas. They can all be defeated in the same manner, so there was little point in adding them. Finally, there is a notable exclusion with Link's Awakening final boss. The Shadow Nightmares have a total of six forms, with only two requiring a sword to deal damage. Neither of these forms are it's final form, so it would have required recording footage in progress, only to abruptly stop it before formally beating Link's Awakening DX. #zeldalinksawakening #kolohintsword #bossrun #zelda #linksawakening #nintendo #gameboycolor #zeldagameplay #zeldabosses #zeldabossrun #gameboy #retro #retrogames #retrogaming
