Countless low-income women around the world have to travel miles on foot to reach a bank or lack the awareness of digital financial solutions available to them via their phones. Agents, both banking and mobile money in these regions have proven to be instrumental in economically empowering these women by providing access to financial services beyond CICO while at the same time increasing banks’ customer base and bottom line. So how can these agent networks be expanded and trained to be best utilized to engage with these underserved women especially in rural communities? What sort of agent models work and what models need work? What is the role of women agents in serving women clients? The panel discusses how agents can help overcome barriers women face in engaging with financial services as well as insights from successful global models that are evolving and improving in reaching financially excluded populations.
