London Walk - Wandering from King's Cross Station to Camden via the Regent's Canal towpath on an overcast summer Saturday afternoon in June. Starting in front of the iconic King's Cross Railway station, we head into main station concourse, past the departure boards and the crowds of waiting passengers. As we make our way through, we pass the now famous "Platform 9 3/4", with it's usual crowd of hopefuls wishing they might be one of the lucky ones to make it through the wall and catch the steam train service to Hogwarts! Leaving the station we wander through Pancras Square, a lively area that is home to the Google Offices. From there we cross Regents Canal by bridge and enter Granary Square. Next is 'Coal Drops Yard' with it's fantastic architecture and modern revamp of the old Victorian coal yards that once served London with coal brought from the Coal mines of the north of England, that is now a vibrant area filled with high end shops and bustling eating establishments. On this particular Sunday, Coal Drops Yard was playing host to the Londoncyclefestival, and the Via Criterium, a 3 day cycle festival with a fast technical race track staged right through the heart of Coal Drops Yard. You'll see a few moments of the action from the 'Cargo Race' as we make our way through. From there we join the Regent's Canal tow path, a walk way that follows the Regent's Canal as it makes it's way east to west through the heart of north London. To this day, the canal is filled with canal boats and working locks, which are now joined by wildlife and passers by walking along its banks. We follow the canal past the repurposed gas storage towers that make up Gasholder Park, now filled with high-end apartments where once they held gas for London's homes and lamps. The canal cuts through the streets and alleyways, past studios and apartments and many a canal barge, before making its ways to the heart of Camden. And it is in Camden where We finish our journey, in front of the railway bridge that famously announces the location as 'CAMDEN LOCK'.
