Sailing Island Escape - St Petersburg to Venice Florida - Part 4 - Venice to Desoto Point

The 4th leg of a cruise from Saint Petersburg, Florida to Venice, Florida and back. This leg took us from Venice back to the Manatee River, this time to Desoto Point. This was not the original plan. Originally we intended to continue south to an anchorage on the east side of Useppa Island, on the inside and south of Boca Grande Pass. The weather had other plans. The forecast for two days out was for 20 knot winds gusting to 30 knots. Local knowledge was that the best anchorages south of Charlotte Harbor became crowded with boaters seeking shelter in event of storms. Not knowing the area, and not knowing that there would be room for us on arrival, we and Scott and Christy, the crew of "Perfect Pitch," our companion boat on this trip, a Catalina 36 Mark II, decided it was best to head back north to familiar waters and safe harbor. The forecast proved to be accurate.
