(NOTE: I am just a patient and not a medical professional; please use these exercises at your own discretion.) Abdominophrenic Dyssynergia (APD) is a disorder of gut-brain interaction involving paradoxical diaphragm contraction and abdominal wall relaxation. See the Azpiroz article linked below for a medical understanding of this issue. My issues started after nicotine poisoning from a cigar. I suffered with this for 2 years with no improvement until starting these exercises. Some people with APD suffer for 10+ years before they discover physical therapy / breathing techniques and are finally able to improve. Reddit: There is also a full detailed guide to the exercises posted on Reddit at this link: / my_physical_therapy_routine_for_abdominoph... MORNING 0:50 Diaphragm Releases (Laying, Sitting & Standing) - 8 reps each side, hold for 5 seconds 5:15 Myofascial Release "Skin Rolling" 7:00 ILU Abdominal Massage for Constipation Relief BEFORE AND AFTER BFAST / LUNCH / DINNER 10:15 Pendulum Breathing (see note below) 3-5 minutes 15:40 Ribcage Breathing - 10 full breaths 18:45 Supine Marches - 1 set of 10 reps EVENING 23:25 Open Book Stretch - 2 sets of 6 reps each, hold for 5 seconds 26:20 Thoracic Foam Roll Extension - 2 sets of 6 reps 27:30 Other Tips, especially when out in public Pendulum Breathing: Dr. Azpiroz-trained clinics have been popping up lately that are teaching the pendulum breathing technique, such as in the UK, Spain, at UCLA and soon the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. From speaking with patients who have attended, the treatment is a 3-week training program, where the protocol is first taught supine then progressing to upright positions. The movement is done GENTLY, not forcefully as I demo in the video, and not with a sharp aspiration either (just a gentle exhale, controlling the ribs). Also, during the technique, your breath should be HELD w/ a closed airway, not with dynamic breathing.
