Ninety-nine years after the squadron was formed 49 Squadron Association gathered at Bentley Hotel, Lincoln, for its annual reunion. Three passes over the hotel by the BBMF Dakota started proceedings. The following day we went to St. Clements of Rome Parish Church, Fiskerton, for our Memorial Service. This was followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the memorial at Fiskerton Airfield where the squadron was based for much of WWII, flying Avro Lancasters. It was here that a further three pass salute was flown by the BBMF Dakota, their Lancaster being grounded following its engine fire some weeks earlier. After an excellent buffet lunch served by some of our friends from the village, we returned to the hotel for our annual dinner in the evening. The following day we visited the new Heritage Centre at RAF Scampton. It was from here that the squadron flew its early war operations in Handley Page Hampdens. We were proud to have two of these early WWII aviators in our midst and the thumbnail picture accompanying this video shows Fred Hill, pilot, and Reg Woolgar, wireless operator/airgunner, together with Lancaster air gunner Bill 'Titch' Cooke looking on. We are most grateful to all the kind people who contributed to the success of this reunion.
