In this video we take a ride on everyone's favourite streamlined locomotive; V/Lines A66. A66 is the last A Class locomotive in service and is the last bulldog nosed locomotive in the world hauling regular passenger services. A66 entered service in 1952 as B66. In the 1980's a number of B Class locomotives were rebuilt into A Class locomotives with more powerful prime movers. B66 was rebuilt into A66 in 1985. For the last several months A66 has been running services on the Seymour line, usually running the 17:11 Seymour service from Melbourne Southern Cross, and then returning with the 19:55 service from Seymour to Melbourne. Over the past several weeks however it's been running the earlier 15:31 Seymour service from Melbourne and returning with the 18:30 service from Seymour due to occupations on Metro's Craigieburn line. A66 needs to return to Melbourne each night in order to run a morning peak service from Bacchus Marsh in the morning. We start the video by seeing the train couple to its consist at Southern Cross, preparing for the 15:31 train. We then see some onboard footage of the Victorian countryside and the train arriving and departing Wallan. After seeing the train departing Tallarook we see a Pacfic National steel train before heading to the nearby Tallarook hotel for dinner. After that we head back to the station where we see A66 arrive with the 18:30 service from Seymour to Melbourne where we then see some interior shots of the H cars. We then finish up with a photo of the train shortly arriving at Southern Cross. I would have taken more footage by this point but I had to sprint in order to make my connecting Metro train home. A66's time on the Seymour line is almost up. After the January 29th timetable change the locomotive will be rostered on the Ballarat line during the morning and afternoon peaks, just like the old days. Date: 19th January 2016. Thanks for the Tallarook hotel for providing a lovely meal on such short notice, with free tomato sauce too! http://www.greatvictorianrailtrail.co...
