I haven't done too many highball drinks on this channel and I'm trying to get around to doing more. The Tarzan was created by Zachary Gelnaw Ruben while he was behind the stick at Dutch Kills in Long Island City. Dutch Kills is another Milk & Honey offshoot bar opened by Richard Boccato and Sasha Petraske in 2009. The name of the bar is a reference to the ancestral name of the neighborhood. The word "Kill" means "Creek" in Dutch whose settlers arrive to the area in 1643. The first occupants were the Canarsee Indians who named the area "Canapaukah" which translates to "Bear Watering Hole." The creek each name refers to is the Newtown creek which runs behind the bar and serves as the border between Long Island City and Greenpoint Brooklyn. The Area also served as a British Army Garrison from 1776 to 1783. And was an important road during the Revolutionary War. Gelnaw Rubin now Runs the cocktail program (I believe) at Lion Lion in East Harlem and Boccato went on to open numerous other bars and an Ice business, selling high quality ice to bars called Hundredweight. This drink is one of my favorite highballs, both bitter, sweet and satisfying and I hope you all will love it too!
