Cody Artwell at the double! 28:51 Ashton Athletic score. 4-1 Droylsden 29:30 Full Time 29:56 Outro ---------- In a blustery day in Ashton-In-Makerfield, the Bloods made us wait for goals, and when they did come, they came in abundance. The visitors were hoping to capitalise on last week's away victory at Daisy Hill, and visited an Ashton side they had beat 4-0 the previous season. In honesty, the first half had nothing much to write about. With the Bloods playing into the wind, they struggled to get to grips with the conditions, but did have the better of a half with very few clear-cut chances. If the first half had very few chances, then the second half was the complete Polar opposite, but we had to wait until the 70th minute until the first goal, and it came via an unlikely route. A Sam Oliver in-swinging corner from the visitors right hand made perfect use of the conditions, as the ball drifted over the Keeper's head, and straight into the back of the net for his first competitive goal for the Bloods. (In a TBR EXCLUSIVE following the game, Bloods Keeper Jordan Latham claimed the assist, saying he instructed Oliver to land the corner on top of the Ashton Athletic Keeper.... Now, I'm not sure it will go down in the books as a Latham assist, but we're not going to be the ones to take it away from him!) Just 2 minutes after the first, the visitors had a tremendous chance to double their advantage, as they received a penalty following a foul on Striker Kyle Campbell. In the absence of Caelan Kilheeney, who had earlier left the pitch with a shoulder injury, it fell to Campbell himself to double Droylsden's lead. Unfortunately for the Bloods, Ashton Keeper Billy Davies guessed the right way, and pushed the penalty away for a Droylsden corner. The visitors didn't have to wait long for their second, as the resulting corner, taken by Player of the Match Sam Oliver, was put in an identical place to the first Droylsden goal, but this one managed to find its way to Defender Jamie Robinson on the back post, to head in his first goal for Droylsden. With 3 minutes left of normal time, the Bloods received yet another corner on their right hand side, and that man again, Sam Oliver, put in another fantastic cross, with this one finding substitute Cody Artwell at the near post, to head in his first goal for the Bloods. With the points in the bag, there was still time for Artwell to grab his second, and Droylsden's 4th, following a fantastic long ball by Harry Shipton, and with Cody through on goal, he coolly composed himself, and deftly lifted the ball over the onrushing Davies to make it 4-0 to the visitors. Ashton Athletic managed to grab a consolation goal with virtually the last kick of the game, following some fantastic work down the home side's left hand side, with the cross finding Emmanuel Ujahchuku, who smartly flicked the ball past Jordan Latham. Immediately following the Kick off, the Referee blew for full time, with the Bloods 4-1 winners! The result saw Droylsden rise into 2nd place, whilst Ashton Athletic drop to 17th in the NWCFL First Division North. Next up for the Bloods is a return to the Butchers Arms, and the visit of Colne, whilst Ashton Athletic make the long trip to Barrow-In-Furness, and a game with Holker Old Boys.
