Today in our 2016 Volvo XC70, we'll be having a look at and installing the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 4-Pole flat trailer connector, part number HM11143735.Speaker 2: Okay, well we're ready to hook up to our trailer. Our wiring is conveniently stored inside of our vehicle, so we can just lift up on our storage panel here, pull it on out. We'll set it to the side of our latch here on our hatch. Dangle right down there next to our receiver on our hitch. Close our hatch on up, and we have an adequate-length wire to hook up to our trailer. This will give us all of our necessary functions as required by law to safely tow a trailer. We'll have our tail-lights off our brown wire, our left-turn signal and left brake light off our yellow wire and our right-turn signal and right brake light off of our green wire. White wires are ground. Now when we're not towing our trailer and we want to protect your connection to keep any dirt and debris off of it, we have this nice dust cover. Now that we've gone over some features of our Hopkins wiring harness, we'll show you how to get it installed. Okay, we begin our installation by opening our hatch. We lift up on our cargo cover here. Use the provided strap to lift it up and hold it up. Remove the tray underneath it. We'll open our doors here, we have one on each side. Okay, now on our driver's side corner behind our tail-light assembly we'll find a piece of foam insulation, grab it, pull it out. Okay, the gray connector is our tail-light connector. We're pushing on the tab, put it apart, separate it. Here's the tab right here. Push in, it releases the lock and it separates. Okay, now we'll take our T-connector here that has the brown, yellow and red wire. Slide underneath this panel. Part will come up, put our connection in. Make sure it clips in place and I'll plug the other one back into the tail-light assembly. Add all our stuff back in, our foam insulation. Now we're going to zip-tie our module up to this wiring harness here, so it's not going to be rattling around inside our vehicle. Okay, now we take one end of our red wire that comes with our kit, follow up like we did underneath the panel, and we're going to connect this wire to the red wire on our module. Strip back some insulation from the red wire. Just stick it inside the butt connector, and crimp it on down. Okay, now for some added protection, we're going to wrap our butt connector in some electrical tape. Here white wire coming off our module is a ground. We could use the provided self-tapping screw that comes with our kit in order to ground this to sheet metal, but there's a factory ground-point right here. It's a 10 mm bolt right next to our spare tire. We'll remove this. Take our ground wire that we removed, stick it on the bolt and thread it back into the hole. Okay, that's an ideal ground point for us and it's nice and secure now. Okay, now we'll route our green wire with the connector from our driver's side from the module over to our passenger's side and behind the panel. We'll unplug our connector like we did on the driver's side. Plug our connectors in, make sure it's secure. All right, we'll plug it back into the tail-light. Pull back once I have clicked in, make sure it's secure. Okay, now we'll put our side-panels back in. Okay, now we'll remove our spare tire to gain access to a grommet. Lift this section out too. Now we're going to drill a hole in this grommet right here in the middle to pass your wire through. Take a red wire and you just push it through the hole we just drilled. All right, now that we have our wire pulled all the way through, we're going to take some silicone sealant and seal around the wire in the hole that we drilled. This will help keep exhaust gases from entering the vehicle and keep any dirt or moisture out as well. We went ahead and bundled up the rest of our green wire that went over to our passenger side with some zip-ties and secured it along a wiring harness that's already in the vehicle. This'll help keep it out of the way from if we ever need to access our spare tire. All right now we'll reinstall our foam that our spare tire sits in to absorb noise and we'll put our spare tire back into place. Okay, now we put our spare tire cover back in position. I'll tuck our 4-pole flat wiring into the cover here and lower our cargo tray. All right now, here's where our power wire comes
