On What’s Up this week, four news stories have emerged. Firstly, in Benguerir, UM6P hosted Professor Pablo Jarillo-Herrero, a faculty member of Physics at MIT, who delivered a lecture titled “Magic Angle Graphene: The Twist and Shout of Quantum Materials.” The presentation concentrated on the discovery of “magic-angle” graphene, a configuration of rotated two-dimensional graphene layers that demonstrates unconventional superconductivity and correlated electronic behaviour. This research has led to the development of twistronics, a field dedicated to examining how the rotational alignment of atomic layers modifies electronic properties. The event assembled researchers, students, and experts to investigate these phenomena and their implications for quantum technologies. Second, UM6P’s Language Center has entered into a cooperation agreement with the British Council, thereby expanding collaboration across various domains including language assessment, professional development, pedagogy, academic activities, cultural initiatives, and student engagement. The ceremony was attended by senior officials, notably the British Council’s Director in Morocco and a representative from the UK Embassy, underscoring the partnership’s international scope and strategic importance. Third, the IAS organized a seminar on micrometeorites, presented by Dr. Andrea Midtandk of Freie Universität Berlin and Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. The seminar discussed the formation of micrometeorites through asteroid and comet processes, atmospheric entry, detection, and recovery—from deserts to urban areas—and laboratory techniques used to confirm extraterrestrial origin and to enhance understanding of early solar system history. Finally, UM6P hosted the cultural event “Nasma,” organized by the student club FlavOria in conjunction with SOLE and SHBM, which featured culinary workshops, discussions, and musical performances to honour Moroccan cuisine as a symbol of cultural identity and heritage. #UM6P #TimesofUM6P #GatheringMindsShapingFutures #WhatsUp Social links Follow us on Linkedin: / times-of-um6p Follow us on Instagram: / timesofum6p
