In this talk, an Artsakh-born participant shares how public spaces can restore belonging, trust, and community life. Through participatory budgeting in the Masis community, a new public park and symbolic monument will be created in Nor Kharberd - turning memory into a foundation for rebuilding life together. Ashot Hovhannisyan was born in Stepanakert, Artsakh, where he lived until the forced displacement of 2023. Prior to displacement, he worked at the Thermal Economy CJSC as a site supervisor. Following the events of 2023, Ashot volunteered in the distribution of humanitarian assistance to displaced families, supporting coordination efforts during a critical period of transition. He currently works as the Assistant to the Director at the Masis Information Technology Development Foundation. Ashot’s personal journey reflects resilience, civic responsibility, and a commitment to contributing to community rebuilding in the face of displacement and change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
