New tram M31B in Gothenburg, Sweden

Follow us onboard the refurbished M31B tram. One of Gothenburg’s most iconic trams, the M31, is currently undergoing an extensive renovation to keep it rolling on the city’s tracks for many more years. With this refurbishment, the goal is for it to remain in service for at least another 15 years. The 79 cars are scheduled to be renovated between 2025 and 2030. The work is being carried out by Skoda in the Czech Republic. The first day in normal traffic will be Monday the 1st of December 2025. In this video, filmed on the Tuesday the 25th of November 2025, you’ll first see details of some of the changes. Then you’ll see the trams being shunted around in preparation for the trip. After the shunting, the journey begins, and the video concludes at the Central Station where we get off. Some of the new features of the updated M31B to look out for: Exterior: New paint and refreshed body. Doors: The old pneumatic doors have been replaced with modern, quieter electric doors. These also feature anti-pinch protection and LED lighting. Interior: New seats similar to the newer M33 and M34 trams.
