As members of Cornwall Heritage, we decided to visit their Cornish heritage festival, taking place at Enys Gardens on Saturday 13th September. Having driven through flooded roads to get there, we were blessed with glorious sunshine once we arrived. The festival celebrated all things Cornwall, from its history to its culture. There was lots on offer, including performances from male voice choir Oll an Gwella, who treated us to a range of folk songs and sea shanties, and the Cornish Caretakers (featuring Edward Rowe a.k.a. the Kernow King), who took a light-hearted and kid friendly look at some of the events from Cornwall's past. Children who came along were given the opportunity to try their hand at Cornish wrestling, and Viking reenactors show examples of weapons from the time, demonstrated their archery skills, and even gave the kids a Viking battle experience! Volunteers were also cooking up sweet, medieval style bread made with honey for you to sample, and there was some craft activities for younger ones, including tile painting, badge making, and candle creating using bees wax! We spent a lovely few hours there and it was great to soak in all of the Cornishness! 00:00 - Arriving 01:19 - Trying out the badge making and tile painting 01:37 - Enys House 02:18 - Cornish Caretakers 02:58 - Oll an Gwella 06:32 - Off to see the Vikings 08:07 - Back to the Cornish Caretakers 09:09 - Cornish wrestling 09:53 - More from Oll an Gwella
