Nestled on the Lizard Peninsula, this hidden cove is all higgledy-piggledy roofs, colourful boats, and paths that seem to lean with the landscape. The scent of salt and seaweed hangs in the air, gulls cry overhead, and every corner feels like it was built to be painted. 🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore Cadgwith has been a fishing village since at least the 16th century—and it still is. Even today, boats head out from the shingle beach to catch crab, lobster, and line-caught fish, their painted hulls resting on the pebbles between tides. Old pilchard cellars and net lofts dot the harbour, quietly echoing centuries of salty toil. You might even spot the hand-painted signs pleading “no crabbing in the slipway”—local rules carved from lived experience. Thatched cottages squeeze into every curve of the cove, many dating back hundreds of years. The paths wind steeply up and over the cliffs, offering views that stretch all the way to the Channel horizon. It’s a place that feels both tucked away and wide open at the same time—protected by the land, but ruled by the sea. Cadgwith’s traditions still run strong. In summer, you might catch a sea shanty night at the local inn, where songs of storms and shipwrecks roll out into the evening. There’s also a touching tribute at the head of the village: the Fishermen’s Memorial, dedicated to those lost at sea from this tiny stretch of coast. This is a walk not just through a pretty village, but through a living piece of Cornwall’s maritime soul—quietly enduring, lovingly weathered, and steeped in stories. 📍 Walk Starting Point (What3Words): ///snuggled.impulses.clocked 🗺️ Full Map of All Walks, Drives, and My Ever-Growing To-Do List: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edi... 📽️ Walk Stats • Walk #278 • Time: 7am – 6th May 2025, English Spring • Difficulty: ⭐ 1 / 5 A few steep and tricky sections underfoot • Beauty: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 / 5 • Steps: 4,554 • Distance: 2.13 Miles / 3.42 km • Weather: A perfect sunrise!
