Snowy Mountain Range Wyoming backpacking/Hiking trip. I landed in a beautiful spot in the Wyoming Medicine Bow National Forest. I just had to get away and refocus. "It was a great three-day getaway with very few people. Compared to the packed Highway 130, the campgrounds that I drove into off the highway were full, with no room to park. I spoke with the park ranger, and they said it would calm down after Labor Day, but it is still very busy. If you want to avoid the crowds and have a 4-wheel drive with good ground clearance, I recommend heading toward Quealy Lakes. Once you get past North Twin Lake, anywhere up there is a good choice." The Snowy Mountain Range in southern Wyoming is a spectacular choice for an adventure. Its rugged peaks, glistening alpine lakes, and captivating subalpine fir forests offer a stunning natural setting. High Elevation: Elevations range from about 9,000 to 12,000 feet, so anticipate cooler temperatures and potential year-round snow. Scenic Byway: The Snowy Range Scenic Byway, Wyoming Hwy 130, grants access to numerous campgrounds, picnic areas, and trails, serving as an ideal gateway to outdoor pursuits. Winter Activities: Beyond hiking, the area is ripe for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, though access via Highway 130 may be limited during these months. Popular Trails: Quealy Lake trail for me!!!!!!! You can visit Wagner Lake, Reservoir Lake, South Meadows Lake, North Meadows Lake, Cutthroat Lake, Deep Lake, Mutt Lake, Jeff Lake, Sheep Lake, Arrowhead Lake, Crescent Lake, Shelf Lakes, North Gap Lake, and then as you are walking out, go off trail and visit Little Long, Vosseller, Heart, Hatch and Middle Long Lake it's quite the little journey 1. Libby Creek Trail: This scenic trail offers a delightful combination of forest and Creekside landscapes, providing a diverse hiking experience. 2. Medicine Bow Peak Trail: Journey to the highest peak in the Snowy Range at 12,013 feet, where you can enjoy awe-inspiring panoramic views of the surrounding beauty. 3.
