Alvernia Liu is a student at Jakarta Intercultural School in Indonesia. She has spoken at seminars, delivered a TEDx talk, and represented her school and country in competitions such as the Genesis Global Competition and the Indonesia National Science Enterprise Challenge. Alvernia also spoke at the ASEAN Youth Skills Forum, organised by UNICEF, ILO, and the ASEAN Secretariat, where she shared her experience as a girl in coding. Her summer activities have included courses at Columbia, Brown, and Wharton, as well as internships with organisations such as Titipku, Blibli, and YCAB. Within school, she serves as President of DECA, Educ/aid, and the Indonesian Club, is an officer of the National Honor Society, and has taken on leadership roles in Student Council and Service Council. At the CCIR Academy, Alvernia’s research paper, The Characteristics of the Informal Sector in Indonesia: A Deep Dive into Digital Finance, examines how digital finance is reshaping Indonesia’s informal economy. It analyses the features of the sector and the impact of tools such as e-wallets, mobile payments, and online lending, highlighting both opportunities for financial inclusion and the challenges posed by digital literacy gaps and regulation. She also shared her reflections on the project in a CCIR Academy Student Spotlight episode, discussing the mentorship she received and the lessons she gained from the research process.
