Increased Accuracy of Spindle and W-axis for Boring Machines | FERMAT

There are two important options for Fermat boring headstocks. Both options aim to increase accuracy of our machines. There are many aspects during machining that influence the temperature of a boring spindle, such as ambient temperature - temperature that is created by the cutting process, the use of cooling during machining, the type of the machined material and many others. In case of standard precision boring mills, a so-called warm-up cycle can be used at the start of each day. Alternatively, your operator can increase the number of check measurements before finishing. Both approaches may, however, take up to 100 hours of your machining capacity per year in total. Luckily, we have two useful options for customers who want to have the most accurate machine possible and at the same time want to reduce their non-production time as well. The first one is an accurate W-axis direct scale and the second one is temperature compensation of a boring spindle extension. Temperature compensation of a boring spindle extension is based on a temperature sensor that is mounted on a suitable place in the headstock. If, however, customers ask for an even higher precision, then there is the W axis direct scale. By default, the position of the moveable spindle is measured indirectly from the W axis motor, which may not be accurate enough for someone. But if we mount this direct linear scale into the headstock, the positioning accuracy of the W axis increases by as much as 500%.
