In today’s video, I return to my Sri Lankan village kitchen to share the magic of king coconut wine and the delicious dishes it inspired. Using five well-ripened king coconuts, fermented with sugar, lime, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves, I created a natural fruit wine full of tropical flavor and cultural heritage.Once the wine matured, I used it in a rich fruit cake — soaked with dried fruits, crushed nuts, and gently baked for hours over glowing embers. The scent of the wine-soaked cake, drizzled with more coconut wine and served with turmeric milk tea, turned an ordinary moment into a magical village afternoon. ➡️ But this video offers more than just baking! I made a smooth kurumba ice treat using leftover coconut flesh blended with mango and nuts — a cooling village-style dessert that’s a favorite of my father. I also crafted a simple king coconut relish, ground with salt and green chili, to pair with freshly made roti and kirimalu hodi (creamy coconut fish curry), full of authentic Sri Lankan flavor. You’ll also see how I used ripe papayas from our yard, protected local wildlife, and transformed garden ingredients into heartwarming meals.
