A knee contusion is a type of injury that occurs when the knee is struck with a hard object or surface. This can cause the skin to break and bleed, or it can cause damage to the underlying tissue without breaking the skin. A knee contusion can range in severity from a mild injury to a more severe injury. Some common signs and symptoms of a knee contusion include: Swelling and tenderness around the knee Bruising (black and blue discoloration) around the knee Pain when moving the knee or putting weight on it Stiffness or decreased range of motion in the knee A sensation of warmth around the injured area If you think you may have a knee contusion, it is important to call Venturis for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Sometimes we may recommend rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) to help reduce swelling and pain, and may also recommend other treatments such as prolotherapy depending on the severity of the injury.
