In this video, we drink a golden Lager that was fermented at the high end of the ale fermentation range. Yes, that's right it is a warm fermented lager! Ever since Homebrew Con 2019, I have been wanting to experiment with warm lager fermentation. I saw a very nice presentation with about using Fermentis Saflager W-34/70 at ale temps. My brew session happened in the middle of July. Dude, it was hot and steamy and a perfect time to try it out. This lager was 95% Pilsner malt and 5% white wheat malt. I used a little Warrior to bitter and some Tettnanger for flavor/aroma at the end of the boil. After the boil, I chilled this one down to room temperature and at the time in the basement was 70-75 degrees F. I sprinkled in one packet of W-34/70 and let it rip. The first 4 days were very active. It calmed down after that and I left it warm for a total of 14 days. I then put the entire primary fermentor in my 42 degrees F fridge and left it there for over a month and a half. We both really think this lager came out pretty clean and very tasty. It was certainly dry with a FG of 1.008. Let us know if you've been fermenting lagers warm or not. Leave a comment about your experiences with warm lager ferments or W-34/70.
