When winter freezes the railroad switches that keep supply chains moving, shovels aren't enough. The ice turns to concrete, and the steel becomes brittle. To fight this, engineers turned to the military scrapyard. They took decommissioned MiG-15 and B-52 jet engines, strapped them to flatcars, and created the Jet Blower. It is essentially a rolling flamethrower. It blasts the tracks with 1,000-degree exhaust and 5,000 pounds of thrust, vaporizing snow instantly. But strapping a jet engine to a train comes with a cost. It’s so powerful that it can blow the rocks out from under the track, melt asphalt road crossings, and set the wooden railroad ties on fire. This is the story of the loudest, most dangerous snowblower on earth. In this video: ❄️ The Problem: Why frozen switches destroy railroad logistics. ✈️ The Tech: How a Turbojet Engine generates the heat and thrust needed to fight ice. Shutterstock 🔥 The Danger: Why crews have to put out fires started by their own snowblower. 🇷🇺 The Origin: How the Soviets and Americans both militarized snow removal. 👇 The Verdict: Is this brilliance or overkill?
