TRANS MONGOLIAN RAILWAY Train No: K23 Operators: China Beijing Railway Corporation, Ulaanbaatar Railway Bureau 32hours, 1,553 kilometers (965 miles)direct weekly train which runs every Tuesday from Beijing 🇨🇳 and every Thursday from Ulaan Bataar 🇲🇳 Remember this is a direct train resumed again from 3rd June 2025 between China and Mongolia. Train departs 0727 from Beijing with Chinese locomotive on Tuesdays and reaches Border town Erilan by midnight where passengers leave the train with their luggage for immigration and train goes to yard for change of gauges as China and Mongolia uses different track gauges, in the meantime Chinese immigration check all relevant documents. Wait time at the border is about 4hrs which is in mid night so forget about a good sleep. When train is ready it comes to station with Mongolian locomotives and passenger goes to same coaches and seats. Now comes Mongolian authorities to your seat to check again all relevant documents i.e passport, visas. After leaving Beijing train passes through some beautiful views in China and next day you see the famous Gobi desert, well landscapes hard to explain in words. Train leaves from Beijing main station and it has three classes, First class soft sleeper with two births, Second class soft sleeper with 4 births and Second class hard sleeper with 6 berths. China uses its own dining car and after border it changes into Mongolian one. Train tickets can be bought at chinahighlights.com and Travel China guide and are delieverd at your hotel. I used Travel China guide and it was an awesome experience.
