This is a short video from the Sept. 6, 1970 Major League Baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Red Sox in Boston, won by the Red Sox, 9-8. It is from the WHDH TV in Boston broadcast, with Ken Coleman and Ned Martin on play by play and Johnny Pesky on commentary, It's not always about the Red Sox. I posted this one because at the start of it the great Brooks Robinson makes three outstanding plays, the first two on consecutive batters. This, of course, is a preview of what was to come in the World Series, when Robinson was named MVP after leading Baltimore to victory over Cincinnati. He batted .429 with six RBIs and his incredible defense robbed the Reds of several hits/runs. The Orioles' Mark Belanger also makes a couple of nice plays in this game, and Boog Powell several sneaky good scoops at first base. The Red Sox would actually win it in the 11th inning when, with Billy Conigliaro (4 RBIs in the game) at the plate, Pete Richert uncorked a wild pitch, scoring Tony Conigliaro. We may be getting more of this game at some point, and that play would be fun to see. Note: Young Bob Montgomery, future No. 10, is wearing No. 39, future number of Mike Greenwell. Not copyrighted. I don't claim the rights to, and don't profit from, this video. I just posted it for historical and educational purposes, and for those who will enjoy it as much as I did.
