2025 has been the driest spring on record for Wales, and as such has provoked diesel only running on the world famous Ffestiniog Railway for some weeks now. With a planned week away in north Wales, things were not looking hopeful in the build up to a visit. Thankfully when the time came, rain brought with it the return of steam traction to the 13 mile narrow gauge line. During the May half-term, we take a look at the action over a few days with four of lines fleet in the spot light. The various stages of Fairlie's Patent design locomotives, for which the line is well known for, were on display with loco's N.o.8 'James Spooner', N.o.9 'Taliesin' & N.o.10 'Merddin Emrys' all in action. Penrhyn Hunslet 'Linda' was also out and about. Having not visited since 2019, the line has very much gone through a major transition. Largely due to the Covid 19 pandemic forcing change to the way they operate services, the line continues to adopt a similar style timetable of individual round trip services. This had both it's advantages & disadvantages, but gave predictability to where loco's would be and when. 0:00 Porthmadog Harbour - 'Linda' & N.o.9 'Taliesin' 3:40 'The Boston Lodge Shuttle' - N.o.9 'Taliesin' 6:39 'The Woodland Wonderer' - N.o.10 'Merddin Emrys' 13:51 'The Mountain Spirit' - N.o.8 'James Spooner' 24:40 'The Quarryman' - 'Linda' 26:44 Heading home for the day - N.o.10 'Merddin Emrys' In true Welsh fashion, the weather did it's best to put us off at times, whether that be wind or rain, but it was certainly good to be back at at place I have frequently visited over the years. From revisiting favourite locations, to finding new ones, it was all in all a great week. Scenes were filmed on various days over the week of the 25th - 31st of May. Hope you enjoy!
