Before watching this class please read Unit A4 entitled "Test Specifications and Design" from Fulcher & Davidson (2007). Language Testing and Assessment: An Advanced Resource Book. Routledge. Although it is a pirate copy that infringes my intellectual rights, you can download the book here: https://www.kau.edu.sa/Files/0005056/.... When you have watched the class, the post-class reading is Unit B4. Test Specifications are actually "the test". What the learner sees when taking a test is called a "test form". The specification is the test "blueprint", from which the forms are built. If you work in an institution where someone "writes a test" - there can be no guarantee that students are being treated equally and fairly as there is no quality control over any aspect of content. If you find this topic as fascinating as we do, please also read chapter 5 in Fulcher (2010). Practical Language Testing. Routledge. And do not miss Davidson & Lynch (2002). Testcraft: A teacher's guide to writing and using language testing specifications. Yale University Press. This class, perhaps more than any other, should cause you to question assessment practices in educational institutions and systems around the world - and make improvements to your own institution's practices.
